BLOCKED IN
DIR. DANIËL ERNST
NL  |  4 Mins  |  Interactive Experience

Blocked In was the first diorama released by Dutch artists Daniël Ernst and offered a place in which the visitor could experience an immersive room and the surreal sight of Tetris blocks falling from the sky. It also coined the term diorama for these kind of experiences. The room you visit was hand-painted on top of 3D geometry. Every inch of the room is unique, every scratch on the table top, every letter of the handwritten message, every pixel of a Tetris block.

DANIËL ERNST
Daniël Ernst is an interactive illustrator based in The Netherlands. After working in the game industry for multiple years he decided to put his research on storytelling through illusions and his love for everything 3D into practice and apply it to VR. This amalgamation resulted in an ongoing series of fantastical dioramas for virtual reality called The Shoebox Diorama. The series now consists of 'Blocked In', 'Der Grosse Gottlieb' and 'The Marchland'. His dioramas have a simple goal of inspiring a sense of wonder. Daniël is currently working on a full length diorama called Dear Pigeon Man.
